Plants & Growing
We love using the Home Grown grow lights to grow our favourite herbs, salad greens, micro greens, small tomato varieties, strawberries
and flowers. But you can grow anything that can be grown in a small pot! Always consult your seed packet.
We recommend referring to the seed packet to determine what fertiliser is best to use for your chosen plant.
Of course! You can grow more than one type of herb in one container, as long as you make sure that all the herbs in a single pot share the same water and soil preferences. For example, rosemary likes to dry out between watering, while parsley needs steady moisture. Therefore, they don't work well together in the same pot.
This depends on the type of plant you are growing, and the type of pot you are using but a good rule of thumb is when the top layer of soil test starts to feel dry, stick your finger into the soil to see if the soil underneath is still damp. If it’s dry then it’s time to water.
- Unfortunately, some pots, plants and soil that you bring home from the nursery may already be infested with pests or fungal diseases before
you bring them home. And it’s not always easy to tell straight away as they can appear 2-3 weeks later.
- Try adding plants to your garden that are known to repel harmful insects, example lavender, marigold, peppermint and catnip.

We recommend taking your plants outside and spraying them with an organic pest spray.
- Don’t allow plants to grow too tall or they will get burnt by the lamp. The light source should remain 10-15 centimetres away from the top
you your plant throughout the growth cycle. We also recommend regularly pinching or pruning your plants to encourage a bushier plant. Here’s how to do it
- Start pruning once you have 2-3 pairs of leaves (if you prune before this time, your plant may die as it needs time to establish)
- Cut the stem with sharp scissors right above the node (where the leaves come out). From every cut, you should get 2 new shoots, creating a bushier plant with more leaves for you to harvest
- Pruning your plant often will extend its life and your harvest. If you’re a novice we recommend starting with basil or thyme for practice!

Some plants drop leaves and flowers naturally. If some leaves or
flowers wither we recommend removing them.
Technical Information
Plants use sunlight as energy to grow. And that sunlight is made up of the complete spectrum including all colours of the rainbow. Plants
need a full spectrum of light to be healthiest but there are some colours in the spectrum that it uses more than others at different stages. In particular, plants use blue light to promote growth at the germination stage and red light to promote flowering at the fruiting stage. The LED lights used in the Home Grown products produce the full colour spectrum and have been specifically engineered to stimulate plant growth so your plants can thrive indoors, without any direct sunlight!
The height is adjustable so you can ensure the lamp remains 10-15 centimetres away from the top you your plant throughout the growth
cycle. Ensuring your light is 10-15cm away from the top of your plant ensures you are giving your plant the most efficient amount of light for
healthy growth.
Just like us, plants need to have a rest. Once plugged in and turned on, the Home Grown light will stay on for 16 hours at a time and then off for 8 hours. It will turn on again automatically until turned off at the main power.
Absolutely. You can re-set the 16 hours on / 8 hours off cycle so that it starts afresh by simply turning the light off for 10 seconds and back on
again. Easy as that.
- The Home Grown range uses LED lights to help your plants grow. The LED lights in our products use between 5 to 20 watts of electricity. When used for 16 hours per day, on average they use less energy than toasting 6 pieces of bread in a standard toaster!

No, these lights are designed to be used indoors only.
25,000 hours. That’s almost 5 years with the auto on/off timer.
Wipe with a dry cloth.
Don’t worry, our Home Grown grow lights are easier to assemble than an flat pack bookshelf! We include assembly instructions with every product!
If you unplug your Home Grown light (for more than 10 seconds) you will re-set the automatic 16 hours on / 8 hours off timer. So just be
aware that when you turn the light back on, the light will turn on automatically for 16 hours so we recommend turning your Home Grown light on in the morning so that the light mimics’ natural sunlight and you don’t have any annoying lights on in the kitchen when you are
trying to go to bed!
